For Good

June 7, 2020

I heard the below song for the first time a few days ago in a Harlem High School video (attached in comments) that my friend Ashley and her daughter Hannah sang. I don’t know the context of the play/movie it comes from, but it was absolutely beautiful and the words touched my heart so much.

In this life we meet numerous people. Some say by chance, but I think not. I truly believe that God brings special friends into our lives for a reason. That reason is to be iron sharpening iron as the Bible says in Proverbs 27:17, to help each other grow to be more like Jesus, if we let each other.

Unfortunately, some will not let you. For others, as the saying goes, when you dance that close you’re going to step on toes. Inevitably feelings will get hurt and hearts will be broken as the enemy is constantly seeking to steal, kill, and destroy, John 10:10. Often times this seems the case for those Godly relationships that are seeking to minister together to bring Him honor and glory.

Over the years there’s been blame and faults that were very much mutual. I’ve been hurt badly, yet in the big picture of things, it doesn’t seem to matter that much anymore. At the same time, I am sure I’ve hurt others, and for that I’m deeply sorry and seek forgiveness.

It hurts my heart to say this, but for some friends, I’ll probably never meet them again in this lifetime... but I can say with a smile, that I know I am who I am today because I knew you. Your handprints are forever on my heart, as well as so much love I carry for you. The good parts of who I am today are definitely made of what I learned from you.

God only knows when and how all our stories will end, but I know each of you have helped write mine by being my friend. I have been changed for the better.

In this world that seems to be falling apart, may we all strive to let God’s love shine through us. Pray that He orchestrates our stories such that our fingerprints can touch the hearts of others and that He uses us to change lives for the good.

Old and new friends alike, thank you all for being my friend, and the impact in big and small ways you’ve had on my life.

Hugs and love always!!!💜

“For Good”

I've heard it said,
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn.

And we are led to those
Who help us most to grow if we let them.
And we help them in return.

Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you.

Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes the sun,
Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood.

Who can say if I've been changed for the better
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good.

It well may be
That we will never meet again in this lifetime.
So, let me say before we part:

So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you.
You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart.

And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.

Like a ship blown from its mooring by a wind off the sea.
Like a seed dropped by a sky bird in a distant wood.

Who can say if I've been changed for the better
But because I knew you...

Because I knew you...

I have been changed for good.

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done,
You blame me for.

But then I guess,
We know there's blame to share.

And none of it seems to matter anymore.

Like a comet pulled from orbit
(Like a ship blown from its mooring)
As it passes the sun.
(By a wind off the sea)
Like a stream that meets a boulder
(Like a seed dropped by a bird)
Halfway through the wood.
(In the wood)

Who can say if I've been changed for the better.
I do believe I have been changed for the better.

And because I knew you...

Because I knew you...

Because I knew you
I have been changed...
For good.
